Welcome to the first episode, if you will, of 90 With Andrew where I’ll share a thought that’s been bouncing around my head in 90 seconds or less. My hope is that this will help me become a better thinker and and maybe even spark some new thoughts or ideas for you.
Today, I’ve been thinking about ambiguity.
All throughout school, we’re taught that there are right answers. Right answers on the test, essay, or homework assignment. But when you step out into the real world, there no longer are “Right Answers” most of the time.
True, there are better or worse answers, but there rarely is a single right answer in our professional or even personal lives. This ambiguity can be a scary thing and it can paralyze us. However, if we shift our mindset a bit, ambiguity can be a positive and empowering force.
Embracing ambiguity is freeing. It changes our perspective from looking at right and wrong answers to better and worse ones. We no longer are paralyzed by looking for the right answer. We do our research, look at the data, and then act. And acting is where the magic happens. That’s how we can learn, iterate, and find better and better answers.
When we act despite ambiguity, we learn to trust ourselves and our decision-making skills. True, acting in the face of ambiguity means we can’t hide behind being perfectionists and we are going to make mistakes. But usually, perfectionism is what we hide behind when we’re scared to act.
So my goal is to not be paralyzed by ambiguity. I want to make decisions and act, even if I haven’t found the perfect, right answer. Because usually, the perfect right answer doesn’t exist.
So, let’s embrace ambiguity and be empowered by it! Thanks for watching!
