I think one of the biggest things that hold us back is that we often don’t know exactly what we want. Most people, I would argue, are pretty good at getting what they want when they know what it is they actually want. The problem is, we usually don’t have a clear vision of what we want, for our careers, our lives, our families, etc.
Sure, we might have a vague idea of what it is we want, but usually, it isn’t well defined enough to create an actionable plan around. If it isn’t clear, how do you get it? Having a clear idea of what you want in mind is the first step to making it a reality.
The process is simple: Figure out what you want and then work backward from there to where you are. I find that when I really put in the effort to decide what I want, decisions become a lot easier to make. Either they’ll lead to what I ultimately want or they won’t, it’s as simple as that.
So what do you really want? Take the time to really figure that out, clearly define it, and the rest becomes a lot easier.
